OUTFITS FOR ANY WEATHER:

The weather in Texas lately has been eh, a little bit unpredictable to say the least. Its especially hard to tell in the morning, when I’m usually deciding what to wear. I think we all have this problem is some way or another. The trick i’ve learned, is to choose lighter loose fabrics and layer them. Loose cardigans and blazers work best for tops, and then the bottoms are all up to you. Lately, Ive really been into the maxi skirts and harlem pants which are both really light, flattering for anybody type, and quite modest! Mixing light and dark colors and shades is always safe when you’re not sure how pretty its going to be outside. For hijab, its really important that you choose light fabrics and avoid too many layers. Here’s what i have worn this week, for a little bit of inspiration!

Color En Extasis!

Our new Spring Collection! 2013

There’s so many different inspirations behind this collection.

Alheli, Bella Luna’s founder and designer lives in the beautiful country of Mexico…Mazatlan to be a bit more accurate.

If you’ve ever visited Mazatlan, you would know just how beautiful that place is; at every corner, you will find yourself saying “SubhanAllah”.

Spring is here, and Mazatlan flourishes into a beautiful tropical place, drenched in color, hence the name Color En Extasis- “Color in Ecstasy”

This collection is inspired by Mazatlan’s beautiful blue beaches, and the agriculture. From gorgeous tropical flowers to the red red chiles that grow on trees for agriculture; this collection is inspired by every corner of Mazatlan, Mexico, and of course the beautiful, happy and celebrating Mexican culture.

The Colored Skinny Jean—HIJABI APPROVED

When the colored skinny jean exploded into the scene of fashion last fall, I saw myself fall victim to another trend all over again.  I mean who could resist that opportunity of incorporating those bright, electric colors into your wardrobe? Nope, I couldn’t.  I bought two pairs from American Eagle a week later, in peach and cherry red. I noticed, however, these pants made it a little difficult to coordinate tops with.  I noticed girls pairing neon pink jeans with lace crop tops, floral corsets, and Vans sneakers, but that was no where near the “classy chic” and modest look I was going for.  These pants fit pretty tightly so I found that longer, loose fitting blouses and layering became my new best friends.  As I began to experiment, I added some darker colors: burgundy, indigo, and royal blue to help transition into more winter-friendly attire.  With a little inspiration, these pants become really fun to pair pieces with! Here are some tips and outfit ideas to help you when tackling these colored jeans:

Neutral colored and/or buttoned blouses work best so you don’t look like a walking human-sized rainbow. Long cardigans can be layered on top, as well as bold necklaces (Forever 21 has a plethora of them) and print scarves. To keep it modest, it’s a good idea to look for short dresses rather than actual shirts. For hijabs/scarves, I have found that the darker jeans go well with tribal, leopard, and houndstooth prints, while pastel pants coordinate with florals, ombre, and waterblend/soft-tone colors.

To add texture, lace, denim, and chiffon work really well with baggy cardigans. Roll the jeans up around one inch, and pair with a simple flat or velvet loafer.

I think a lot of people make the mistake of wearing giant over-the-top prints with these bright pants.  It’s the colored jean that is making the statement.

Red jeans:

·      navy polka-dotted (or black and white striped) chiffon tunic with nude flats and cream hijab;

·      black leather jacket with cream cotton tunic, tan booties, and leopard hijab;

·      khaki trench coat, ombre hijab, and leopard print loafers

Burgundy jeans:

·      denim button down, cream infinity scarf, leopard hijab, and brown riding boots;

·      denim vest, baggy tan sweater, black studded combat boots, black hijab;

·      over-sized dark gray cardigan, cream lace tunic, layered silver necklaces and pearls, studded black flats

Peach (or other pastel) jeans:

·      simple floral dress, small cream cardigan, nude flats, ombre hijab

·       light washed denim tunic, brown riding boots with cream leg warmers, floral hijab

·      white cardigan, sea foam green chiffon blouse, sandal wedges, floral hijab, , gold chunky bracelets

Royal Blue jeans:

·      tan leather jacket, short tan lace mini dress, leopard loafers

·      mustard yellow cardigan, tan chiffon blouse, tribal print flats; simple tribal hijab

·      black blazer, white chiffon dress, layered gold necklaces, red patent leather flats,

For a night out, pair any skinny with a shimmery dress, and a solid blazer with shoulder pads for a nice mix of texture. For shoes, wedges work perfectly, and if you prefer heels, look for a chunky heel, rather than a really narrow stiletto.

ILL BE POSTING PICTURES ASAP! (sorry guys)

Enjoy your weekend!

Rolla, also known for her url bintfalastiniya, is our very first Bella Luna Girl of the Week!

When I first began to blog for Bella Luna, she was the first Muslimah to come to my mind, I’ve been following her for a while now, and I absolutely love her blog. It’s a mixture of style and fashion, and Palestine. I had a chance to ask her a few questions about her style, which if you’re following too, you’re dying to know about.

1.First thing’s first, talk about your blog, obviously it carries a major message which is justice for Palestine, what do you want readers to learn from your blog and what other things can one find?

I hope my blog shows what I’m passionate about, and Palestine is definitely one thing. I want people to become aware about the situation in Palestine and I’m hoping my blog will help them to do that. My main intention is to just raise awareness about the injustice happening and to answer any questions people may have about it, and also to show the beauty of Palestine. My blog also has a few Islamic posts, and just anything I find interesting or beautiful in general. I feel like it is somewhere I can talk about or post anything, just my own personal space, and I also hope I can spread a positive message about Palestine and Islam through it so that people may learn from it.

2.Describe yourself, who is Rolla, and where does that name come from? Are you in college? What are you studying?

I’m a 16 year old girl living in a small town in South Wales, UK. I’m really into art, fashion, science, culture and what’s happening in the world. My name is an Arabic name which isn’t very well known. I don’t even know much about it, but apparently it was the name of an old Arab tribe who were known for their braveness, strength and generosity. I’m currently in sixth form, which is what we have here in the UK after you’ve finished high school. It’s optional and it’s basically 2 years studying around 3/4 subjects before university. I’m studying biology, chemistry, French and art and hoping to do medicine at university Inshallah.

3.How would you describe or maybe label your style?

This is quite a hard question because I’ve never really thought about this. I don’t feel like I can label my style, I wear what I like and my style changes from day to day. I will wear heels one day and then trainers/sneakers the next. I like to keep up to date with what’s trending at the moment but I make sure what I wear suits me, I won’t wear something just because it’s in fashion. I love layering, patterns and details.

4.Are there any major influences on your style?

My main influences are people I see on Tumblr and Instagram. There are so many people on there who’s style I love. I try not to base my style on other people too much though because what looks great on one person may not look so good on me.

5.In your opinion what are the top three accessories every Muslimah should own?

I actually think Muslimahs can wear whatever accessories anyone else would. If you wear the hijab, I think a black one is something you should definitely own. Other than that, I’d probably say jewellery, bags and belts.

6.We’d also like to know, what are your top 3 pieces of clothing, you think Muslimahs should always have in their closets.

A maxi skirt (probably a black one) because it goes well with a lot of things and can be worn in different styles as well as being modest. A long, simple, loose top that can be worn with anything to simply wear with skinny jeans or underneath a top that may be short to keep modest. Finally I think long cardigans are important as they are loose and help to cover up.

7. What is your favorite hijab style? Do you have specific colors you feel are important?

I love the layered hijab style, that’s probably my favourite. I definitely think black is important and also cream/beige as they go with a lot. Obviously though I think it’s useful to have a range of colours and patterns so you have something for any outfit.

8. I see that you tend to wear skinny jeans, and you always manage to still keep it modest, what are your tips to wearing skinny jeans and making sure, you still keep modest?

I always try to wear long tops with skinny jeans so that they cover up a bit more and don’t make it seem completely skin tight, so I basically just avoid wearing skinny jeans with short tops. You could also maybe buy your jeans one size bigger, they can still look good if they’re a bit looser.

9. What are your favorite places to shop at?

I usually just go to high street shops, so I like places like New Look, Topshop, Zara, Dorothy Perkins etc. For online shopping I like boohoo.com, asos.com and missguided.co.uk, but I don’t often shop online.

10. Any last tips you’d like to give Muslimahs on style?

You might see something you like in a shop that isn’t completely covering but it doesn’t mean you can’t buy it. Experiment a bit, find things that you think would go well with that clothing that will also help to cover up and keep it modest. I’d probably just say keep experimenting with different styles and try out new things. Don’t stick to wearing the same type of clothes you would usually wear, you may discover a new style you love.

i really enjoyed hearing from Rolla, thank you for participating in this interview! We hope to hear from you soon. If you guys want more from Rolla make sure you check out her tumblr and follow her on instagram!

The choice of wearing the Hijab epitomizes a Muslim woman’s devotion to Islam and ardor for Allah. Hijab should reflect self-confidence—it empowers a woman with grace, virtue, and beauty. Many non-hijabis seem to think that hijab is an article that limits fashion capabilities—but in fact it does quite the opposite. Rather than being a restriction on style, the hijab opens up doors to creativity and dash. It gives us an opportunity to not only express ourselves, but more importantly our zeal for Islam.

Every time you put on the hijab, it is imperative that those ideas are kept in mind. When it comes to fashion, don’t make Hijab just another accessory: make it your statement item! Wear it with pride! You can style it in any form or fashion—and there are videos all over Youtube to help you.  When it comes to clothing, the possibilities are endless. And we bloggers are here to broaden your scope of style and give you inspiration.  But of course, it’s not always easy to find modest clothing in today’s stores. BELLA LUNA’s line of clothing is here to solve that problem.  She offers the most exquisite abayas, skirts, and even Hijabs to perfect every outfit. The company fuses modesty and trendsetting in a fresh new way for not only hijabis, but non-Hijabis as well. This blog is here to not promote Bella Luna, but to give you ideas on how to mix and match and layer pieces to achieve that chic modest look you’ve been digging for—one that still represents our Deen well.

Hey there my fellow fashionistas! Im Laila. I’m 19 years old and a freshman Pre-Dental Biology major at TCU in Fort Worth, TX. My family is from the beautiful land of Palestine, but I was born and raised in good ol’ Texas.

When im not overwhelmed with intense biology and chemistry classes at school, I love to spend my spare time playing basketball, reading anything and everything, volunteering at children’s hospitals, and shopping—as every girl would add.

My ultimate obsession, however, is experimenting with fashion. I spend hours digging through Instyle and Vogue magazines and fashion websites and blogs. My sense of style is all over the place, from boho chic and upper east side couture, all the way to grungy and vintage cool. Im a shoe afficionado—I feel like they have the capability of perfecting any outfit. Im in love with the roaring 20’s—not just studying it, but also trying to integrate the flapper girl into my sense of style. I’ve always wanted to be a fashion blogger; my little sister is my ‘personal photographer’ so i can blow up my followers’ Instagram newsfeed every time I put together a cute outfit.I’m so thankful Bella Luna has blessed me with the opportunity to finally do so.

I am a proud Muslim girl who adheres to the religion as best as I can. Though I am not a hijabi, I admire every woman who has the confidence and zeal to wear one and I hope, Inshallah, that i can too one day. I think its important to dress modestly whether one is a hijabi or non-hijabi and I think Bella Luna proves that it is more than possible to do so and still be high fashion. I’ll be blogging about clothing, accessories, make-up, hijab, and anything else you guys request. I want the world to know we Muslim women are about as chic as it gets!(:

Add me on Facebook and Instagram (under Laila Abdeljalil) and don’t forget to like the Bella Luna page and spread the word!

Much Love!,

Bella Luna Abayas Looking for Bloggers!

Salam!

There is so much to talk about today, and so much to look forward to.

Bella Luna Abayas gets close to 1000 likes on Facebook everyday, and new designs are coming soon! Everything seems to be going great, and who else to thank but our wonderful Bella followers. We have been receiving a lot of great feedback on Bella Luna’s designs and our designer, and head of the company Alehli Sg, is incredibly thankful for all the support.

Which is why she has been motivated to further expand the company in several ways. Today though, we’ll talk about one of her ideas: blogging and further assisting our followers and customers. Bella Luna Abaya wants Muslimahs to proudly represent Islam through Bella Luna’s beautiful and empowring pieces of clothing. When Alheli designs, not only is her love for fashion an influence but Allah Himself and the beautiful teachings of Islam. Her mission is to help Muslimahs feel great about themselves as they carry the beautiful symbol that the hijab is or by showing that modesty is beautiful too. So to get right to the point, Bella Luna has taken blogging to the next level. We are now recruiting bloggers, we want to offer our followers and customers more than just clothing, we want to give you tips on everyday style, whether it’s on make up, hijab styles, or talking about controversial topics. We want to form a Bella Luna community, and want our customers to interact with the company. The more we know about you the better we can perform, and we feel the best way to do this is through blogging, and reaching out to our customers.

We’ve already gotten two bloggers, one being me (Salma) and Laila.

Well this is probably a good time to introduce myself.

My name is Salma and I am currently a business major, I love marketing, finance, accounting, everything. Business and helping people grow is my thing. I am a Mexican, Arab, American, which brings me to talking about why Bella Luna stuck out for me so much. I love what Alheli has created, which is a  new brand that brings two completely different yet beautiful and colorful cultures together. Mexico and the Arab world are another two major influences to Bella Luna, and Alheli has done an exceptional job in creating a new product that brings these two cultures together beautifully. It really speaks to me, and I love everything that Alheli has to offer through her designs.

As far as fashion goes, I love it, and I feel I have a good sense of fashion, however, my main purpose in this blog is to find Muslimahs with great sense of fashion and bring them to the spot light. I’m not Muslim, although I was raised through Muslim values, so rather than giving Bella Luna followers tips on style, I want it to come from Muslim girls all over the world…I think interviewing different people, opens doors for more ideas.

As of now, I will begin interviewing Muslimahs on Tumblr, we all know who they are. I’m talking about the girls who have brought a strong great influence over thousands of other Muslim girls.

My first interview will be coming soon, and I really can’t wait.

I hope this becomes a great experience.

Now for our second blogger, Laila.

Laila is an American Palestinian, Muslim currently attending college and going for dentistry. Nonetheless, she is a fashion addict. She’ll definitely be giving our followers tips on modest clothing, hijab styles, make up, and more!

image

image

She’ll also be keeping you up with the latest trends in the Muslim world, and Bella Luna’s designs!

Keep an eye out for her!

She’ll be introducing herself soon.

Well this is pretty much it for today, can’t wait for what’s to come! Please like Bella Luna on Facebook.

And thanks for keeping up with us!

Once again, if you are interested in being a blogger please send us a message! We’re looking!

Until next time!

A Chat with Mexico’s 1st Islamic Fashion Label: Bella Luna Abayas

“Mexico is located to the southern part below the United States. In 2010, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography there were about 3,700 Muslims in Mexico out of a 114,793,341 population. What is one Mexican Muslim revert and self-made clothing designer, Alheli Sg from Mazatlan, Sinaloa doing? She is going against all odds and breaking barriers! I had the opportunity to chat with her on what it means to be a Muslim in Mexico, her label Bella Luna Abayas and its future.”
